Drink driving in France – what are the limits?

If you are driving in France, you need to know that the drink driving limits are stricter than the ones in the U.K.:

If you are breathalysed and have between 50 and 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, you will be fined €135 and loose 6 points from your driving license.

Above 80 milligrams, you may be sent to jail, get fined €4,500 and loose 6 points.

Drink driving is never a good idea so it is best to avoid drinking alcohol, especially if you are visiting France. You might not be used to driving on the other side of the road, might be unfamiliar with the roads and the different speed limits. You will need full concentration!

The beauty of renting a gite in France, is that you can buy any drinks you fancy at the local supermarket and enjoy them at night with your friends or family without driving anywhere. If you do want to go out for a meal and have a few drinks, arrange for a taxi to pick you up later.

It is best to be safe than sorry!
