Car-boot sales in France

The car boot sale season in Brittany is about to start! Driving through Dinan yesterday, I noticed a sign for Léhon car boot sale, which is taking place this Sunday (7th March 2010). It is usually the first one in the area.

Car boot sales in French are called Brocantes, Vide-greniers, braderies, or Farfouilles. Similar to the British car boot sales, these places are great if you are looking for a bargain or if you wish to clear some of the items you no longer need. You will find there the usual bric-à-brac, furniture, cloths, antiques, etc. On site there is always a ‘buvette’ where you will find something to eat and drink.

Your local newsagent will have a booklet/diary of all the Vide-greniers in your area. Vide-greniers in France are getting very popular due to the credit crunch. It seems that each village, around Dinan in Brittany, had its own car-boot sale last year!
