Our water company has just emailed us some information about how to protect our water meter as we are having very cold weather in France at the moment.
If your water meter (compteur d’eau) is outside your house, use polystyrene to protect it during the winter. Do NOT use straw, paper, material or Rockwool as they will absorb humidity.
If the water meter is damaged, the water company will charge you for a new one. It is your responsibility to look after it and protect it against frost!
Thankfully our meter is inside the house and in a heated room.
