A lovely spot for a picnic near Dinan

I love this place: the "Barrage de Rophémel" in Guitté.

How to get to it: from Guitté take direction Plouasne and you will find the lake on your left at the bottom of the hill.  Go to the end of the car park and you will find this picnic area.
You can also walk round the barrage. It is shady, perfect on a hot sunny day! The walk start from the centre of Guitté. See my other posts about "walking in Brittany" for more details.

Standing stones in Guitté

Even after 7 years living in Evran, we still discover beautiful places around here! Last Sunday, the weather was great. We were on our way to the Château de Couellan, we took a different route and followed the signs for the “Menhirs de la Pierre Longue” and “Alignement de Lampouy” (Neolitic 'Long stone' and Megalithic stone alignments).

I read that the stones in Guitté, Mont St Michel and Carnac in Brittany, although over 200 km apart, are all in a line and looking at a map, I can confirm this!

If you are looking for those stones, the village of Guitté is about 20 minutes South of Dinan, 15 min from Evran in Brittany.

In the centre of Guitté, take left at the church, direction Plouasne and carry on. You will see a sign on your right-hand-side for “Menhirs de la Pierre Longue” and “Alignement de Lampouy”.

If you are visiting the area with children, there is a great play area (aire de loisirs de la Noe Moy) with a pond and several picnic areas. Children will be able to burn off energy!

The village of Guitté is about 15 minutes drive from our gite in Brittany, 20 minutes South of Dinan.

There is a great play area (aire de loisirs de la Noe Moy) with a pond and several picnic areas. Children will be able to burn off energy!



Once in the centre of Guitté, take direction Médréac and you will see the play area on your right. There is a shop in the village where you will find food and drinks.

Whilst there you could also visit the Château of Couellan. It is signed posted from the centre of Guitté.

Couellan Château near Dinan

Some parks and gardens were open to public last weekend in France (rendez-vous aux jardins). I took this opportunity to visit the park of the Château de Couellan in Guitté. It is only 15 minutes away from our gite in Brittany.

It is privately owned so you can’t visit the château but you can freely walk round the park. It is shut from 1^st June to 19^th July and opened the rest of the time from 2pm to 8pm. It is free.

Guitté is a pretty village in Brittany, close to Caulnes and about 20 minutes South of Dinan.

Rophémel Dam in Guitté/Guenroc

I am always looking for something interesting to do on a bank holiday! On Monday 24^thMay, I organised a walk in the area with a few friends. As it was extremely hot (already 20 degrees at 10am and over 30 in the afternoon!!) I had to review my choice of walk. I picked one which was in woodland so we were not too hot. Starting from the centre of Guitté in Brittany, (about 15 minutes South of Dinan), we walked along the dam (barrage de Rophémel) and back to the car.

I would recommend this walk. It was very enjoyable and the scenery was beautiful. See the photo!

It took us just under 3 hours and it was about 9 km long.

I have a book called ‘le pays de Dinan à pied”. It gives you a choice of 39 different walks all around Dinan in Brittany. Some are short, easy or a bit longer and harder!
