Port Breton Park

Port Breton Park is facing the Prieuré Beach in Dinard. You will find over 40 animal species (donkeys, lamas, dears, goats, wallabies, etc) and 20 types of birds.

There is also a great play ground for children.

In the summer donkey rides are also offered.

The chateau can be visited.

There is a beautiful rosary at the back of the chateau.

Everyone should find something interesting there!

Free admission, free car park (car park could be tricky in the summer, so go early!)

Montmarin chateau and gardens

Privately owned, Montmarin chateau is not open to public but the gardens are worth a visit. They are in two parts: the French style gardens (18^th century) and the Romantic garden (1885) with lawns, mixed borders, shrubs, plants and rockery.

It overlooks the river Rance. A great spot!

Plants can be purchased from their nursery.

Entrance fee: €6

In Pleurtuit, turn right at the traffic lights if you come Dinan. Carry on straight on. It is sign posted for “Le Montmarin”.

It is a short drive away from Dinard and St Malo.

Both places are worth a visit.

About 30 minutes from our gite.

Dinan castle

Before becoming a museum, Dinan castle used to be a prison.

You will see the Wicket Gate, the Donjon and the Coëtquen Tower.

Dinan is 10 minutes away from our gite in Brittany.

Jardins du Montmarin

Montmarin, chateau, park and gardens are classed as Historic National Monument.

6 ha of park slopes gently down to the river Rance in a series of terraces.

You will find a French formal garden and an English garden.

It is worth visiting it in August when the agapanthus are in full bloom!

Montmarin Chateau is in Pleurtuit in Brittany, about 30 minutes from our gite in Brittany.

Fougères castle

This 15th-century fortified castle is worth a visit.

It is a good hour from our gite in Brittany.

For a whole day out, you could visit Combourg and Bazouge-La-Pérouse on the way.

La Roche Jagu Chateau

Located in Ploëzal, “Château de la Roche-Jagu” (castle and estate) is overlooking the Trieux Estuary You can walk freely round the estate. You will see a water staircase, palm grove, over 200 varieties of camellias, etc. Guided tours of the castle are available.

Whilst there you could visit the island of Bréhat.


La Roche Jagu Chateau is about 1 hour and 20 minutes from our gite in Brittany.

Léhon castle

Léhon castle overlooks the village of Léhon and the Rance valley. It is free to walk round it.

Whilst there, you could also visit the Abbey of St Magloire.

Léhon is a charming village which has preserved its rich architectural heritage, hence its title ‘Petite Cité de Caractère”.

Léhon is in Brittany, just outside Dinan, 10 minutes from our gite in Brittany.

Couellan Château near Dinan

Some parks and gardens were open to public last weekend in France (rendez-vous aux jardins). I took this opportunity to visit the park of the Château de Couellan in Guitté. It is only 15 minutes away from our gite in Brittany.

It is privately owned so you can’t visit the château but you can freely walk round the park. It is shut from 1^st June to 19^th July and opened the rest of the time from 2pm to 8pm. It is free.

Guitté is a pretty village in Brittany, close to Caulnes and about 20 minutes South of Dinan.

Château de Hac in Le Quiou, Brittany

Some parks and gardens were open to public last weekend in France. I took this opportunity to visit the Château de Hac (15^th century) in Le Quiou. It is only 3 km away from our gite in Brittany. It has just been renovated and is now beautiful.

Being a keen gardener, I was impressed with the garden. It was neat, tidy and colorful! If you come to Brittany, I recommend this château to you.

As it is a private property, the opening times are restricted. You can all the owners on 02 96 86 43 06.

Le Quiou is about 10 min South of Dinan in Brittany.
