Ile de Batz, Batz island

Only a few minutes by boat from Roscoff, this island is worth a visit especially the garden ‘Delaselle’
with more than 2500 species, including a collection of palms. See this link here for the botanic garden.

To visit the rest of the island, you can easily walk round or if you rent a bike, you won’t need more than 2 hours! The island is very small.

From our gite in Evran it would take you 2 hours to get to the island of Batz in Brittany, France.

In the summer donkey rides are also offered.

There is a beautiful rosary at the back of the chateau.

Everyone should find something interesting there!

Montmarin chateau and gardens

Privately owned, Montmarin chateau is not open to public but the gardens are worth a visit. They are in two parts: the French style gardens (18th century) and the Romantic garden (1885) with lawns, mixed borders, shrubs, plants and rockery.

It overlooks the river Rance. A great spot!

Plants can be purchased from their nursery.

Entrance fee: €6

Visit their web site for more information.

In Pleurtuit, turn right at the traffic lights if you come Dinan. Carry on straight on. It is sign posted for “Le Montmarin”.

It is a short drive away from Dinard and St Malo.

Both places are worth a visit.

About 30 minutes from our gite.

Jardins du Montmarin

Montmarin, chateau, park and gardens are classed as Historic National Monument.

6 ha of park slopes gently down to the river Rance in a series of terraces.

You will find a French formal garden and an English garden.

It is worth visiting it in August when the agapanthus are in full bloom!

For more information about this park, you can visit their web site here.

Montmarin Chateau is in Pleurtuit in Brittany, about 30 minutes from our gite in Brittany.

Jardin du Château de La Ballue

On the way to the Mont St Michel, you will find this beautiful park “Jardin du Château de La Ballue”.

It is listed as a Historical Monument. You will see a series of gardens, rooms, each with its own atmosphere, designed in harmony with the chateau firmly rooted in the baroque culture.

For more information, you can visit their web site here.

La Ballue garden is in Bazouge-La Pérouse in Brittany about 45 minutes from our gite in Brittany.

Parc Floral de Haute Bretagne

According to the Michelin Guide, the Parc Floral de Haute Bretagne is one of France’s finest landscaped parks. It covers an area of 25 ha and acclimatizes plants originating from various continents in some twenty theme-based gardens.

The children will enjoy the suspended bridge, the prehistoric garden and other surprises (ghosts, etc).

I really enjoyed my visit when I went there with my friends Debs and Linda.

I think it is time to go back! Gardens always improve with the time!

The Parc Floral is about 1 hour from our gite in Brittany.

It is just outside Fougères, in Le Chatellier. You should find it easily as it is well signposted. Allow about 2 1/2 hours to walk round it!

For more information, you can visit their web site here.
