Dol-de-Bretagne organic market

Dol-de-Bretagne organic market takes place every Tuesday from 5 to 8pm at the indoor market (les Halles).

You will find there bread, vegetables, meat, jam, apple juice, wine and other alcohol, fresh pasta as well as craft (cloths, painting, baskets, jewelry, etc). Life music.

Dol-de-Bretagne

Dol-de-Bretagne is a medieval town located between St Malo and Mont-St-Michel. You will find there the oldest houses in Brittany, amongst them is the “Maison des Petits Palets”.

As well as beautiful medieval houses, you will find a cathedral built in the 13^th century.

Have a break, and enjoy a drink or a meal at one of the many bars and restaurants from the high street.

And for raining (or sunny!) days, an indoor pool with slides, Jacuzzi and steam room.

Market day is Saturday (all year round). Dol gets very busy and lively then!

And a short drive away, visit the 10 m high standing stone or the farming museum!

Dol cathedral

Also known as the Saint Samson Cathedral, Dol cathedral was built in granite in the 13^th century. With its chapels and porches, it has a design rare in France.

It is free to visit!

Whilst there, visit the centre of Dol and its medieval houses, the standing stone, the farming museum, and the Mont Dol!

Dol-de-Bretagne is about 30 minutes from our gite in Evran.

Musée de la Paysannerie

Just outside Dol-de-Bretagne in Baguer-Morvan, you will find a very interesting museum. The Musée de la Paysannerie (“Museum of Peasantry” is the exact translation!)



What is there? Well, where shall I start? Everything to do with farming (tools, machinery, cloths, etc), and life in the countryside in the 20th century.

You name it and they have it! 6 huge outbuildings have been converted into a museum. They also have farm animals (chickens, cockers, peacocks, cows, donkeys, rabbits, etc).

Allow about 1 to 1 ½ hours to visit it! If you go there on a rainy day, bring an umbrella as you will need to walk from one outbuilding to another!

€5 for adult and €3 for children. After the visit, you will be offered a glass of cider (bolée de cidre) made locally.

Free car park.

You will find this museum on the Dol-de-Bretagne – Combourg road. It is about 20 minutes from our gite.

Mont-Dol

A short drive away from Dol-de-Bretagne, (direction St Malo) the Mont-Dol is worth a visit. From the top of the mount you will have a beautiful view on the bay.

On a clear day you will see the coast from Cancale to Normandy, and the impressive Mont St Michel of course. Don’t forget your binoculars!

There, you will find a tiny chapel, a tower, a windmill, picnic area and play area for children.

Everything is free to visit. Free car park too.

There is also a café selling snacks, drinks and ice creams.

Standing stone in Dol

On the way back from Dol-de-Bretagne, go and see the Menhir du Champ Dolent. I bet it’s the tallest standing stone you’ve ever seen! It is about 10 m high!
It is listed as Historical Monument.

The Menhir is outside Dol-de-Bretagne, on the way to Combourg. You should spot it very easily!

It is about 20 minutes from our gite in Evran.

Mont-Dol evening market

From mid-July to mid-August, Mont Dol (near Dol-de-Bretagne) organise an evening market on Wednesday evening from 5 to 8pm.

You will find art and craft as well as local produces.

It gives you a chance to buy straight from artists and producers.

Whilst there, you can go and visit the Moulin (wind mill) and enjoy the view of the bay from Cancale to Normandy. You should see the Mont St Michel on a clear day!

Dolibulle swimming pool in Dol de Bretagne

About 30 minutes from our gite in Brittany, the Dolibulle swimming pool is perfect for a rainy day to keep children and adults occupied!

Located in Dol-de-Bretagne, it is 2 000sqm.

It is a covered pool with a paddling pool, slide, steam room, sauna, etc.
